Back to School Basics

So some schools have already started so I guess I posted this a little late but it's never too late to add some basics to you school wardrobe. This post is just going to be about the basics such as jeans, tanks, etc. My next post will be about other things that are nice to have for school but not essential.
1. Jeans-
Jeans are a classic essential piece in everyone's wardrobe, especially a teen's. Jeans come in many varieties and a wide range of prices. The first style of jeans are flare. They are a nice fit at the thighs and then flare out below the knees. Now we're not talking about 70s flare jeans here. Too much of a flare is over the top and makes it look like you're ready for the disco era. A good flare goes out to the the middle of your foot or less. To find your pair make sure you try them on. Most jeans for teens these days are low rise but they shouldn't be too low that whenever you bend over everyone gets a show. If that's the case where a cute belt! Flare jeans can be found in many stores such as American Eagle (39.50-49.50), Hollister Co. (sale going on now so prices are different online), Pac Sun, (usually have a 2 for 55 deal), JC Penny, and many other stores.

The next style is boot cut. Boot cut jeans are just like flares but are loosely fitted to the calves of your legs. They usually seems a little bunchy around the ankle too, depending on the brand. Boot cut jeans can be found in the same stores as flare jeans and are usually the same price.

The next style are skinny jeans. Skinny jeans fit snug around your calves and are not loose around the ankles. Most stores that sell jeans have them and some stores even sell super skinny jeans.

2. Basic Tank Tops-
Plain tank tops are a necessity! You can where them alone or layer them. My personal favorite tank top brand is Hollister. That's probably because I always walk in the store when the have a sale on them but anyway you can find them practically anywhere ranging from $5 dollars to $20. I recommend getting a few basic colors such as black, white, and gray. Then you can adventure into other colors such as different shades of blue, red, green, yellow, orange, and pink.

3. Cardigans-
Cardigans are good for all year round. Some are light and others are made for the warmer months of the year. When picking out a cardigan pick a color that can go with anything such as white, gray, black, or tan. Also watch out for what kind of fabric is used for the cardigan. Stay away from a wool like feeling (which can be terribly itchy) and go for more of a cotton, silk texture, or cashmere. Brands I recommend on the lower end are H&M and American Eagle (which run under 30 dollars). For higher end brands I recommend DKNY (which run over 140 dollars).

4.Tee Shirts-
Tee shirts can come in many varieties and they don't have to be plain either. They can have funky sleeves or different patterns on them. I suggest getting a tee shirt that is not too baggy but also not to tight on you, just the perfect fit. Brands I suggest are Lauren Conrad's brand found at Kohls and American Eagle. Try to stay away from shirts that say the name of the place you got them from. It's like free advertising or bragging and it's only cool for gym class.

5. Leggings-
You can where them as pants or under a dress, what's not to love about leggings? Heck I even where them to bed because they're so comfortable! Now if you're going to wear them as pants make sure you buy a pair that aren't see through. No one in school wants to see your underwear! There's only one brand that I will recommend and that I swear by, American Apparel. They are the softest leggings I have ever had and they are NOT see through. The sad part is $26 dollars isn't so cheap for a pair of leggings but they are worth it. You can also get three pack for $63 dollars instead of $78 for 3 separate pairs! If you can't get American Apparel's leggings you can try H&M's for a reasonable $10.

6. Bras and Undies-
Let's face it everyone wears them and they are a big part of your outfit. Unless you plan on going without them (which I highly suggest you don't), stock up on these basic essentials. You can get really cute underwear with designs on them from Victoria Secret, Aerie, or JC Penny. Bras come in many different styles such as sports or push up so get the one best for you or a mix of different styles.

This might seem like a small back to school list but this is just the basics. This is what I stock up on mainly and then I add a few trend pieces or other things to my list. Thanks for reading and be sure to check back for my Back to School Not So Basic List.
